IMPERIUM
A little gift to everyone this Christmas. Hope you enjoy this time lapse compilation from the last couple of years on the Great Plains of the U.S - where storms become quickly possessed.
This can't have been possible without the help of my awesome mates and chase partners over this time including Cameron Hines, Jodie Muston, Brendan Gully, Brayden Marshall, Greg Campbell, JF Massicotte, Brandon Centeno, Grahame Kelaher, and Rowland Beardsell. Roads and the VERY long drives, chase targets and dealing with the indecision, busted windshields and seriously awesome storms as the reward. Thanks a lot.
'IMPERIUM'
Enjoy!

    Very briefly at 0:06, right as soon as the strike occurs the strikes discharge can be heard. Been doing a lot of research on lighting strike behavior and I’ve come down to a theory with staccato strikes. Unlike your average Cloud-to-ground lighting strike, Staccato lighting A.K.A “Blip lighting” is most commonly seen in thunderstorm updrafts and are usually very short and quick strikes that usually last no more than a millisecond. It is these strikes that are the most feared IMO because they come with little warning or reaction as seen in this clip (Which Is seen of course by you.) I’ve had many encounters with close staccato strikes and it’s surely fearful. Another thing to note is the tall pole to the right. As seen in the slow-mo, that strike exhibited branching of downward streamers from the leader. It is very possible (in most cases and it’s definitely possible) that a upward streamer may have likely developed from the top of that pole as this was a positive strike. Very close encounter for you and great footage!

    Wholey crap!!! I miss the shows up there guys, this is a beauty that’s for sure. Great to see a true strobe show, most UA-cam uploads are every 2-3 seconds and few 40 repeat strokes like the top end gets

    Only been to the territory once and it was in a January. Had a brand new 1982 GJ Mitsubishi Sigma. Took a chance driving through waters like that and that little car never missed a beat in the water. Could not believe my luck in it. Each time a truck or one of you 4wd mob drove in the opposite direction everyone just stared shaking there heads as the wave went over the roof of the car. But I've got to say that Sigma made it all the way to Alice. The option there was taken away for the rest of the way back to Adelaide as the roads had been washed out so the rest of the trip was done on the Ghan.

    I love how some look like they are drifting, like leaves in the breeze; others are rolling like tumbleweeds; still others are still yet moving, like something seen moving past thru the frame of an open window; and finally, others are created and fade away in the same place. Thank you for sharing it here. Wish it lasted a lot longer.

    These are probably the tallest thunderstorms on earth with plenty of lightning. Though it seems that they lack the very hard edged cauliflower look to them. Possibly due to the lack of polar air within that latitude I don't know. The deadliest and the among the most impressive, air still in the American Midwest.

    • @unripegreenbanana
      @unripegreenbanana 7 років тому

      Yes I think cooler air has a thing to play. Convection does seem much harder edged in the Plains. Florida convection in the summer will be very similar to here.

    Tak tomu sa hovorí , že sú to praví lovci búrok . Ja by som nešiel fotiť ani natáčať na video blesky , lebo je to nebezpečné . No pre niekoho je to zábava a baví ho to. Ja by som mal veľký strach , lebo keď som malý , presťahovali sme sa na Slovensko z Čiech , tak vo Zvolenskom centre udrel blesk a odvtedy mám veľký strach . Napríklad aj vlani pri Gymnázium neďaleko nášho sídliska udrel blesk a práve som umýval riad , tak ma strašne myklo , čo to bol za rachot. Raz sa mne aj starkému stalo , že som išiel k nemu na prázdniny a pri námestí bol panelák , kde bol na šťastie bleskozvod. No kým sme prišli na druhú stranu , tak sa blyslo , že sme oslepli a potom nastal riadny rachot. Mne aj starkému bili od strachu srdiečka , mohlo sa to skončiť aj horšie. Na šťastie išla oblačnosť smerom na Banskú Bystricu a Kremnicu . Mám ešte jeden zážitok , keď som bol u starkého . Mali sme ísť na druhý deň na výlet do kúpeľného mesta Turčianske Teplice a od Bystrice išla riadna búrka . Na šťastie to obišlo Zvolen , no zato na Turci to urobilo riadne zmeny . V parku boli vyvalené stromy a konáre boli popadané aj na lavičkách . Tak sme išli na výlet až na budúci deň . Ja som mal tiež veľké šťastie , že som ostal na žive . Išiel som sa poprechádzať popri Hrone smerom k železničnému mostu . Najprv išla búrka len od Bystrice a druhá smerom od Pustého hradu . Rýchlo som sa otočil naspäť a išiel domov , len kým som dobehol k mostu , začalo liať ako z krhly . Medzitým blesk udrel na opačnej strane Hronu do starého stromu , tak sa ozvala riadna rana , ako z dela . Po pol hodine prestalo pršať a len hrmelo a blýskalo sa . tak som vybehol z pod mosta a pokračoval v ceste plný strachu . Nechtiac som sa pozrel na oblohu a päťsto metrov udrel čiarový blesk a opäť bola riadna rana . To dávalo najavo , že búrka strácala silu a išla na hory. Inak je to veľmi krásne video , pochvala pre autora a palec hore . Myslím , že aj v Českej republike sú lovci búrok , tak držím chalanom palce pri ďalších úlovkoch . Klobúk dolu.
